The General Secretariat issued a statement No. (1010) on today's crime of summary execution of 60 detainees in Al-Taji area, the following is the English text of the statement:

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and his family and companions and allies:

At dawn on Thursday 24.07.2014, sectarian militia has summarily executed sixty detainees in Al-Taji area northern Baghdad in an operation its details is unknown yet, while the government story says that they were killed in an attack on a bus.

This event comes after similar mishaps of crimes happened previously where the government forces have carried out execution of prisoners on their own and in collaboration with other militias, the Human Rights Watch in an earlier report, has documented that offense in time, place and numbers.

The Association of Muslim Scholars condemns this heinous crime, which is a crime against humanity and reflects the criminality of the perpetrators and their behaviour of taunt with people souls; it renews its strongly condemning stance towards the great biased position of the international community to the Maliki government and the one-sided silence on its crimes, and not to take the ethical responsibility for curb this crime, which exceeded all expectations, the Association also calls for the free world to have a proper position over these crimes of unspeakable affront to humanity, and believes that the visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Baghdad that comes together with the occurrence of this crime today; is an evidence that the U.N is still in a coma, to play its rule about the ongoing crimes against humanity in Iraq, and it did not stop until the moment for support the current Baghdad regime.
