Senior Iranian Officer Killed in Syria, Official Recognition

A top officer in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Col. Mohammad Eskandari, was recently killed in Syria by opposition armed group, according to reports Wednesday.

The Iranian news agency ABNA also reported that Eskandari died in Syrian fighting, according to news and analysis website EA Worldview.

"General Eskandari had been killed on Tuesday in a battle nearby shrine Sayeda Zeinab in Damascus, according to 'Public Relations Section' of Iranian Revolutionary Guards, noting that Eskandari was a head of Foundation (Shaheed) of the Revolutionary Guard in the province of Fares southern Iran.

Eskandari, who was listed in other reports as a brigadier general, was reportedly killed by Al-Nusra Front, an armed opposition group that has been fighting to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The commander of the Air Forces in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ali Haji Zadeh, has recently confirmed that the survival of Assad in power; because of Iran's support and willingness.
