Monday, 18 May 2009 14:10

The media officer of the Iraqi League made an interview with the Secretary-General of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq, Sheikh Dr. Harith al-Dari during the conference of National-Islamic Conference where the Iraqi League also invited this year.

Here is the text of the interview:

Iraqi Rabita - Respected Shayk, somebody asks that the Association of Muslim Scholars is now living outside Iraq, and it is far from the concerns of the Iraqi street, and not keeping pace with the successive events, how do you answer?

Dr. Dhari - I would like to first make it clear that I personally went out of Iraq on 9/3/2006 for the invitation of the United Arab Emirates to attend a conference. That was after the attack on my home ten days before that date. The attack was carried out according to orders issued by the Ministry of the Interior under Jaafari Government and his interior minister called Solagh.

After I left, I have been informed by the decision of Shura Council of the HEYET not to return to Iraq at the time I shortly left ...Before me, official spokesperson of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq Sheikh Bashar al-Faidhi was also informed about a decision of the Shura Council after that we were surrounded by the media in Iraq. There has not left us any means to get our voice and positions of the tragic events which was necessary to be known by the world outside of Iraq …

We are aware that this issue has led much criticism about the questions... I would like to clarify through your platform that the Association of Muslim Scholars, Harith al-Dari,  and Bashar al-Faidhi are not just out of Iraq, a few others are required to work outside of Iraq, the bulk of the members of the Association of Muslim Scholars are inside Iraq and are still carrying out their duties assigned to them in many cities..After our exit from Iraq, Allah Almighty provided us to open many of the offices that were not existed in many Arab countries...

We became able to deal with the media more broadly in order to highlight the facts in our Iraqi cause and to spread the open and clear positions of HEYET as well as definition of the national program for Iraq after the occupation...

The survival of a few of us out of Iraq has opened great opportunities ahead of us which we did not dream of it before in the delivery of the voice of all Iraqis rejecting the occupation and resisting against it  to all world.

Iraqi Rabita - Respected Sheikh. When I was at the headquarters of the Association of Muslim Scholars (HEYET/AMSI) in Baghdad in 2004, the voice of HEYET was the strongest voice in the Iraqi arena, and many Iraqis were waiting for its statements and its position on the events...The situation is now probably changed for reasons that might be beyond your will. How do you evaluate your current situation and future?

Dr. Dhari - Despite all of pressures, threats, blockades and raids to HEYET in order to force it to softening and  acceptance of so-called political solution, HEYET with the grace of Allah Almighty remained at the initial positions of the firm since the establishment of the first day...

Now, passing days are revealing what HEYET and its all opposition position have said... Passing days had proved authenticity of HEYET after the bitter experiences...

We have clearly and explicitly said NO to the project of occupation, we are accused of some exemplary and non-realistic...Now, Praise God majority of the Iraqi people is demanding the withdrawal of the occupation.

The Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (HEYET) said since the first day that so-called political process under the occupation of Iraq will not lead to safety, and would threaten the unity of the people of Iraq and the unity of its territory. There are now the days proving all of the talk spoken by HEYET before happening.

We have been opposed to the constitution, which codified and attempted sectarian and ethnic quotas giving it a constitutional dimension...

Now we see some of the demands for amending the constitution-making...We had strongly opposed to so-called SOFA which was not only the submission and surrender but it also granted the occupation to have rights in Iraq that has not been dreamed of before, after it was only the military occupation …

Thanks to Allah Almighty, HEYET has not declined, alhamdulillah ..In the past, HEYET had one general headquarters (Umm al Qura Mosque), one newspaper (al Basair) and one web site (iraq-amsi.org) .. Thanks to Allah, we  now have the offices of the representatives that are recognized in the Arab and Islamic countries. At the media level it is very well known to everybody, and political, information and wide activities...

We will continue to contact with our brothers of the Arabs and Muslims on a large scale, even the Association of Muslim Scholars has become the leading voice of the rejectionist Iraqi front against the occupation.

Iraqi Rabita - Iraqis chose electoral political solutions to resolve the resistance when they went to the polls...Why the Association of Muslim Scholars is opposed to the electoral process?

Dr. Dhari - No, to the contrary, the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq did not oppose the right of Iraqis to exercise their freedom through the ballot box, but at the same time did not support the election and called for it in fear of results from the detrimental consequences of the entire national project...

We all know what the election is surrounded by fraud, vote-buying and other practices that have proved to many Iraqis about futility of such a deep exercise...However, the last elections had resulted in an Iraqi rejection of the parties that have been alleging that they are representing the majority. It is the evidence of their failure and non ability of leading Iraq.

Iraqi Rabita - Respected Sheikh. We know your personal and opinions…What do you say about the Iraqi Rabita?

Dr. Dhari -  Thanks to Allah, the Iraqi Rabita since its establishment with its positions, national, Islamic and humanitarian activities is appreciated. It started great efforts to support the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq and all national works rejecting the occupation. We hope to continue its activities and keep all members, supporters and their national rejection of the occupation and so-called political process under the occupation.
