The lecture witnessed participation of many national, academic figures as well as trade union and media. The lecture continued with questions and answers for three hours where the lecture turned into a large demonstration of support for the Iraqi resistance. The media have paid great attention to the lecture and published the news as main news in al Akhbar al Libiya (the Libyan News Agency) and a number of websites. The lecture was recorded of having importance by Al-Jazeera and will be broadcasted at al Jazeera Mubasher. The lecture was opened by Mr. Hussein al Swaidi who praised the Iraqi jihad and resistance where he mentioned loss of U.S. occupation forces and the bitter reality of Iraq under occupation, praising the positions of the Association of Muslim Scholars and its stance. The lecture also witnessed attendance of a large number of the sons of the Iraqi community, led by Iraqi professors in the Libyan universities.
Dr. Muthanna al Dhari began his lecture talking about the right of peoples to resist against foreign occupiers referring to the great history of resistance of martyr hero Sheikh Omar Mukhtar to the colonization of Italy in Libya. Dr. al Dhari said: “When we read and reflect on the history of this country and inspiring biography of Sheikh-ul-Mujahideen martyr" Omar Al-Mukhtar, "the speech turns from talking to the resistance." Dr. Al Muthanna al-Dhari presented his speech in academic and analytical methods giving the status of the resistance in Iraq against U.S. occupation, stressing that this occupation is a new situation in the twenty-century. Because Iraq is a sovereign country and member of the international system, hence the state of occupation earlier …referring to the Iraqi resistance was imposed by all these circumstances.
He pointed out the emergence of this resistance since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and its rapid development in formation…He added that in the world media, there was not availability of the resistance, rather there was a big distorted image in contrast to all earlier freedom and resistance movements… HEYET Information and Media Department official Dr. Muthanna Harith al Dhari addressed the role of western and American media that work to provide distorted picture of the resistance in Iraq by focusing on micro and small part of the resistance far away from its comprehensive and real image. Dr. Dhari pointed out that there are many players in this world who have taken Iraq as an arena for settling scores with each other using this image to cover up the resistance and tarnish its image before the world. He also reflected on some of the implications of the present and the future of this resistance which made achievements as were testified by numbers and statistics from the U.S. reports issued in 2008 for this occupation by the American Accounting Office and the Association of American Veterans. Dr. Muthanna clarified that those reports confirmed that US army and occupation forces in Iraq were subjected to attacks since 2003 to 2008 more than 164.000 combat operations targeting US and allied forces. They led deaths of between 35.000 and 40.000 soldiers from those forces in contradiction to the claims of the US and Western media on the statistics. He clarified that the continuity of the Iraqi resistance, its ability to survive and the inability of U.S. occupation forces to eliminate the resistance due to the breadth of the constituency of resistance in entire territory of Iraq to be surrounded by broad popular lines in addition to public support. At the end of his speech, Dr. Muthanna told that conflicts between political parties in Iraq range in dozens of parties, forces and agencies seeking to access to the power led to the killing of many innocent people. He said: “These powers found in the Iraqi arena as a fertile ground for implementation of political programs…He stressed resistance are innocent of the blood of innocent Iraqis where many of those actors seek to blame resistance with the charges.”
He went on to talk about suspicions received in the way of resistance and fears about occurrence of security vacuum and civil war if the occupation forces leave the land of Iraq… Dr. Muthanna explained that the goal of resistance is focused on the liberation of Iraq, preservation of its unity, Arabic and Islamic identity, wealth and destiny from the hands of the occupation. There is sign that the future will be of the resistance…
