Looted Artefacts Returned to National Museum Print E-mail

ImageThree thousand artefacts, which were looted in 2003, are said to have been returned to the Iraqi national museum.

 

A Tourism Ministry source said Monday those pieces are but a portion of 12,000 others. The ministry is working with Iraqi embassies and consulates to return the Iraqi artefacts exhibited in foreign museums. Similar efforts are made to encourage people inside Iraq, who still have such historical pieces to return them. Image

“The returned artefacts are examined to appraise the damage and then given back to the national museum,” he said.

Department of historical sites has pointed to the destruction and damage inflicted by US military offensives on ancient ruins.
