A government security source in Basra said a reconnaissance plane crashed at afternoon (28.12.2008-Sunday) in the Marbad area west of Basra.

The source added: "The British troops rushed to the crash site and closed roads leading to it preventing the passage of vehicles and citizens until the transfer of debris to the other place."

The source was unable to give further details on the causes of the crash.
