Experts : The Number Of Iraqi Refugees Exceeds The Declared Numbers Print E-mail
Saturday, 06 October 2007 12:58
ImageThe experts stated that the number of Iraqi refugees either in side Iraq or out side may be too much

more than the officially estimated number. UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCF) has declared that ten million dollars was donated by United Arab Emirates as an aid for the Iraqi refugees in Syria.

The Iraqi Red Crescent and UN High Commissioner for Refugees are estimating the number of Iraqis whom have moved from their homes in Iraq or left Iraq to a neighboring country is about 4.2 million person.

This number is formed of about two millions left their homes prior to the US and British occupation in 2003, running from the former deceased president of Iraq Saddam Hussein who was killing anyone who are opposing him.

There are almost two millions of 4.2 million removed from their homes in Iraq, while it is believed that 1.4 million are in Syria in addition to 500 thousand to 750 thousand are in Jordan.

The number of Iraqis whom had applied to obtain the immigration rights in North America, Europe and Australia is estimated to be 19800 person in 2007. USA has permitted for about 1600 Iraqi immigrants to live in America from the beginning of October 2006.

American authorities has announced in last February that Washington planning to accept about 7000 Iraqi, however, this number was decreased to 2000 immigrants.

Several organizations which are interested in Iraqi issue think that tens of Iraqis are rejected to register their names either before the foreign country governments or before the Iraqi government because of the non-settlement of the security and restriction of moving freely.

The Immigration Political Director of Human Rights Watch said; in fact there is no choosing or selecting because the Iraqi immigrants are treated as illegal immigrants so many people think that the most preferable action is to stay hidden away from the authorities.

He added "the capabilities of the humanity organizations inside the country are too weak because of the lack of security. Indeed we depend upon the local persons whom may increase or decrease the number of the refugees and the reason for that –we think- is the political reputations or obtaining aids.

Whereas the Director of Middle East Project in International Group For Crises Treatment Joest Helterman said "We haven't seen the real refugee crises yet". The expert in Iraqi affairs in The National Defense University in Washington Jodith Jaaf has emphasized that " the real number is not inconformity with number levels that are collected or with levels of research".

Jaaf thinks that the number of refugees living out side Iraq could reach to double the number of the UN Commissioner.

In one hand the expert in Iraqi Affairs of The International Immigration Organization Dana Greber Ladek has considered the reason of thousands of Iraqis refusal to register themselves before the concerned government is the fear of lackage of the security.

In the other hand UN High Commissioner for Refugees said that the President of UAE Sheikh Halifa Bin Zaid Al-Nahian has donated the sum of ten million Dollars as an assistant to Iraqi refugees in Syria, and added "it is unusual" to have such big donation for only one program, expressing that the said donation is the biggest from UAE within ten years period.

In a press statement the Commissioner has announced the deliverance of the Emirates charity and said " The Iraqis in Syria are forming 10% of the total population that burdens great load to the country". The commissioner estimates the number of Iraqis arriving to reside in Syria every month is about thirty thousand person
