Saturday, 06 September 2008 14:58

The southern branch of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (AMSI) published weekly Basra Report number 41 on the situation in city for the period from 19 August until 25 August 2008.

HEYET Net – The report consists of several articles and details.

The U.S. occupation army composed of four vehicles was targeted by an explosion near Basra International Airport.

As usually, the occupation army mentioned in a statement about human losses and material damage suffered by his forces which was the first indication of the U.S. occupation forces to their presence on the land of Basra.

The province of Basra residents expressed fears of the return to the gunmen after they left the city during the so-called government operation (Knights Arrival).

The newspaper of the Middle East (daily independent newspaper published in London) quoted to a number of residents of Basra, city centre to maintain as saying that "the decline of the activities of security agencies during the current month encouraged the gunmen to return to the implementation of the violence... pointing out to the killing of two people and wounding a third one staff from Independent Centre of the elections on Monday, 19 August 2008. In addition, the newspaper quoted to the Attorney Hashem Kazem saying, "The people of Basra have not seen any activity of the security services and the government army during the last period except strengthening control on the street and to stick the photos of wanted at the market.

For his part, the teacher Hassan Abdel Radi described that, "the security situation in Basra, he said there are no pillars to keep the security situation remained stable after decrease of number of government troops entered into the city and return to participate in operations in other governorates."

The newspaper also quoted of businessman Mohammad Zaher as saying that "to describe the British occupation forces for maintaining security in the province as it is stable is the apparent characterization far away from the reality after considering not familiar with the repercussions of hidden conflict. Because the leaders of those forces are trying to polish the image of the city to provide security covering for the decision to withdraw their forces from the Airport base early next year. "

The incident may reveal that women are still detained in the women's prison stronghold of the magnitude of worsening security in the city of Basra…

The woman had been killed by militia elements with her husband and her son aged 13 years who was wounded to the hospital and departed from intensive care. Then he was killed in the arena of aviation centre of the city also while 5 of their relatives who are endowed with a donation of blood for those wounded were detained for a period of time.

This story becomes more surprising when the government insists that the police do not continue to detention of women, despite the deaths of three of her family by the militias?

One of observer says that the police haggle with women today to pay a sum of money in return for their release.

This incident and others behind the lack of confident observers and all people with the police despite the declaration of giving up the repeated arrests of a number of people alleged to be wanted in seeking of the media to cover the deficit, which is evident in their performance.

For his part, Muhammad Misbah governor of Basra declared early on the existence of specialized assassinations teams " not identifying" saying: “they are trying to extinguish some religious and political figures in the city...”

He explained that these groups possess handguns silencers for the implementation of their operations.

On a related deteriorating security situation experienced by Basra these days, a clergyman survived an assassination attempt against him on Saturday 23 August 2008 at the city center when unknown gunmen opened fire at him, which led to his injury moderately wounded and was evacuated to hospital.

The member of the Basra Governorate Council asked to remain anonymous said that gunmen opened fire on Sheikh Haidar Ismail al Saymiri in the arena of aviation wounding three bullets hitting one in the back...

He pointed out that Sheikh Ismail, who was living in Iran was on a visit to his family in Basra.

Meanwhile, Ismail governor of Basra earlier said that his brother, several members of his family and relatives had been subjected to the assassination attempt and arrests during the former crisis.

On another side, the insurance company overshadowed contacts of the service of mobile phones (mobile) in the city of Basra sites that are against the occupation and calls for resistance.

The sources quoted of the head of the Department of Company (Iraq TELL) Sarar Farouk saying the company was granted in Basra Internet users the opportunity to contact the company to inquire about the reasons for withholding any site on the Internet and the company can provide adequate answers on that. However the citizens in Basra confirmed that withholding these sites came upon the pressure from the government and parties in order to obscure facts and information provided by those sites, which publishes the country's endemic corruption and the involvement of many politicians in embezzlement and theft.

Iraqi media figures and specialists expect in international information network technology to transform the Internet experience of withholding sites from Basra to other cities of Iraq to include the sites of newspapers and satellite channels against the American occupation of Iraq.
