The Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (HEYET) strongly condemned the brutal crimes that target elders and clan elders and figures who have principle positions rejecting the hateful U.S. occupation that attacks to Iraqi people killing, wounding and destroying their properties.

HEYET  in a press statement said that the assassination of Sheikh Mahmood Hussein Jassem al-Obeidi Sheikh of Obeid tribe in the twenty-sixth of last month has been carried out when a roadside bomb planted in front of his home in al Nasru wal Salam area in Abu Ghraib district went off. It came following charges of notorious government Muthanna Brigade that committs flagrant violations against the people of the district.

HEYET noted that government forces arrested Sheikh Maher Mahmoud al-Azzawi leader of al Izzah tribe in eastern Baghdad in 31st December where his body was received from the Department of forensic medicine, carrying severe physical tortures.

At the end of the press release HEYET took the occupation and the current government fully responsible for abusive practices, flagrant and disgraceful acts committed by government forces against innocent Iraqis, resulting in killings, arrests, and violations of the sanctity of the holy sites.
