UNCHR calls EU Gov. to accept Iraqi Refugees Print E-mail

The UN High Commissioner for the refugee agency called upon the European governments to accept 60 thousand Iraqis who have fled Iraq because of killing or capturing at the hands of the militias, and currently residing in Syria and Jordan.

The United Nations welcomed Germany due to hosting 122 Iraqi refugees and urged other European countries to follow suit in accepting Iraqis in Syria and Lebanon as refugees.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said the refugees who were flown to the German city of Hanover are coming from Syria on Thursday and the first f refugees who move to Germany under the resettlement program.

UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond told in a news conference held in Geneva that every Iraqi family has faced persecution in their homeland, and among those families who escaped a young mother abducted her husband did not know anything after that.

It is estimated that nearly 4.5-5 million Iraqis have become refugees inside or outside of the Iraq as a result of the occupation and most importantly ethnic cleansing operations performed by puppet government and other sectarian militia groups most of which are backed by neihbouring countries.
