AK Party Ban Decision Rejected! Print E-mail
Wednesday, 30 July 2008 18:11

Turkey's highest court has currently announced that it will not close down the governing pro-Islamic Justice and Development Party (AKP) on so-called charges of undermining and threatening the country's secular system.

HEYET Net Ankara – The AK Party, of which prominent cadres were from Islamic Welfare Party under the leadership of Prof. Necmettin Erbakan before the establishment of the party, had won majority of Turkish vote at last year’s election as governing the country second term.

The case was fiercely opposed by NGOs, Academicians, Public and Politicians and evaluated as to be truly ideological and fictitious where most of so-called evidences were put together from the newspapers, web pages and allegations.

Hasim Kilic, the head of the constitutional court, said that the party would instead be deprived of financial assistance from the state treasury.

The decision was popularly greeted by Turkish community.
